Tyrone Lees is my third cast member. Tyrone grew up in Australia his whole life working for his parent’s restaurant, Hugo’s (Hugos, 2015). Tyrone now is the Head Chef and is self-employed of Hugo’s, which is a popular Italian Restaurant in the Wharf, Manly. Tyrone’s step mum was Italian and taught him how to cook all the dishes as a child which is why the restaurant continues to have good revues and customers continually coming back for more.
Tyrone, at the age of 56 has a wife and two teenagers, both girls. His Dad and his step mum all live with Tyrone’s family as well in a one-floor apartment across from the wharf. Tyrone is part of the Quinary Industry (Google, 2015) as cooking is a job done at home. Tyrone is responsible for sticking to the food safety precautions (government, 2015) for restaurants. He also has to continue making quality food so he can have the money for his family at home. Tyrone went to TAFE after leaving school and did a course in kitchen operations (Government, 2015). This gave him knowledge of food preparation and cooking skills. It also gave him skills in routine and repetitive tasks. Tyrone works long hours, getting to the restaurant at 11 in the morning and leaving at 11 at night. This means he works 84 hours a week. Tyrone also has no holiday’s including public holidays such as Christmas and Easter Sunday. Leonardo Abello is my last cast member. Leonardo is a professional free surfer. This means the money he earns is only by his sponsers and moviemakers (About, 2015), as he does not do competitions. Leonardo is required to make clips regularly, be featured in surf magazines and be involved in surf movies. If he does not to do this he won’t get any money. Leonardo originally from Italy, moved to Australia at the age of 5 and straight away started surfing. He moved with his mother, who was divorced. Leonardo is now 18, having just finished school. He currently lives in a share house with two friends. The house is in Newcastle, which is also where his mother lives, which he checks on regularly. Leonardo needs to be the best of the best surfers. This means he has to do surf training and go to the gym daily. Leonardo has to pay his filmer and film editor who then make surf clips, which Leonardo then sends to companies and websites. Leonardo is part of the quaternary industry as he makes surf clips and is involved in magazines and movies that are spread around the world (google, 2015). He needs to make sure to release surf clips and send them to websites across the world as the more views and promotion of his brand means the more money he’s paid. Leonardo is casual as he choses when to work. |
In this phase I will outline what my cast members lifestyle and how they worked to get it.
Tamicka Swan is my first cast member. Tamicka is a female born and raised in Detroit who moved to Australia at 23 looking for a career in the beef industry (Media, 2015). Since then she’s now self-employed, at 38, and owns Monbeef (Simple, 2015), an up and coming Beef company servicing South Eastern Australia, located in Cooma, NSW. Tamicka has two brothers living in Detroit, which she sees once a year on her only holiday. She is not married and has no children, as she prefers the independent lifestyle. Tamicka is part of the primary industry and runs the processing of the meat, the cattle that they buy and investments in farms. As she owns the company, she is responsible for the products being safe to eat and sticking to the Beef Production Guidelines (Pennstate, 2015). When Tamicka came to Australia looking for a career in the beef industry she first went to Sydney University and got a Masters of Commerce(Sydney, 2015). This course gave her advanced skills and knowledge required for a high-level position in industry, business and government. These skills are useful, as she needs them to run her company. Tamicka is self-employed so she works 50-60 hours a week as she owns the company and is required to see over everything and make sure nothing goes wrong. Sarah Bryson is my second cast member. Sarah is a young female at the age of 19 who works part time, at the Bakehouse in Manly Corso. She grew up in France and moved to Sydney 3 months ago on her gap year. Sarah has no brothers or sisters and her whole family; Parents, Uncles, Aunts and Cousins, all currently live in France. Sarah lives with her boyfriend who she met in Sydney one month ago and they now rent an apartment in Freshwater, a small suburb 5 minutes from Manly. Sarah has to wake up at 3:30 in the morning everyday to help make the pastries and bread for the bakery. Sarah has lots of experience in baking as in France she worked in a bakery for three years as a part time job after school and in the mornings on weekend (Portal, 2003 - 2015). Sarah’s experience is very useful and the owners appreciate her skill in baking although Sarah has difficulty talking to customers and selling, due to her strong French accent. She works from 4-10 every morning including weekends where her pay is double. This means she works 42 hours a week. Sarah is responsible for turning up every morning at 4 to bake everything for the day. If she is not reliable and isn’t there the bakery will not sell enough and she will be sacked. Sarah is part of the secondary industry (Finance, 2015) as she uses changes grain and flour, which are already farmed and partly made and turns them into pastries and bread. Reflection: I found it hard in Phase one to find jobs in different industries and with different ways of employment for each person. In class I didn’t write the notes down on the different industry’s, which made it harder to find out what they were as on the Internet they are hard to understand. I now know to write down as many notes as possible when I have the opportunity. I found this Phase quite difficult also to write lots, as I needed to expand more on my paragraphs. In summary this Phase was difficult, as I wasn’t organized enough, for the next phase I will make sure to work on these flaws. |
